Cox Flexion-Distraction Decompression

Cox flexion-distraction is a non-surgical technique that decompresses the spine using a specialized table. It's particularly effective for patients with herniated or bulging discs, sciatica, spinal stenosis, and chronic low back pain — conditions where standard adjustment alone may not produce sufficient relief.

Hunterdon Back Pain Center operates three dedicated Cox decompression tables. We're one of the few practices in the area with this level of capacity, which means patients who need Cox can usually be seen within days rather than weeks.

  • Herniated discs — disc material pressing on spinal nerves, often causing radiating pain
  • Sciatica — radiating pain from the low back down through the buttocks and legs
  • Spinal stenosis — narrowing of the spinal canal compressing nerves
  • Failed back surgery syndrome — continued pain after spinal surgery

Chiropractic Adjustment

Manual Adjustment Across Seven Tables

The core of our practice. Manual spinal adjustment for back pain, neck pain, headaches, and joint dysfunction. Each of our three doctors brings a different technique mix — we match the adjustment style to your body and your condition.

  • Diversified — the most common adjusting technique; high-velocity, low-amplitude thrust
  • Gonstead — specific, region-focused adjustment based on X-ray analysis
  • Thompson — uses a drop-table to deliver a gentler adjustment
  • Activator — instrument-assisted, lower force; useful for sensitive patients
  • SOT — Sacro-Occipital Technique; useful for sacroiliac joint, pelvic, and prenatal issues
  • Blair Upper Cervical — precise upper-neck adjustment, useful for headaches and vertigo

Most patients are evaluated by the available doctor on their first visit; ongoing care matches you to the doctor whose technique mix best fits your condition.

Aging with Grace

Chiropractic Care Built Around Staying Active

For our senior patients, the goal is not to chase a cure — it's to maintain mobility, manage pain, and protect the independence that comes with both. Dr. John anchors this program. At 70, he takes no medications and is the living proof of what he teaches.

  • Gentle adjusting techniques calibrated for older bones and joints — including SOT, Activator, and Thompson
  • NAS (Nautilus Advanced Strength) protocol — manual super-slow training principles applied to strength preservation
  • Functional capacity focus — the goal is the stairs at home, the garden, the grandkids
  • Medicare-participating — most patients with a Supplement plan pay nothing out of pocket at the visit

Sports Injury

Recovery from Doctors Who've Been There

Each of our chiropractors is a former collegiate athlete. The athletic background doesn't change the clinical work — spinal issues and extremity issues in athletes are no different than in non-athletes — but it shapes how we communicate with you about recovery, return-to-play timelines, and the trade-offs that come with both.

  • Acute injury management — assessment, imaging, and a clear path forward
  • Post-injury rehabilitation — bringing you back to baseline, then past it
  • Active patient maintenance — for the runners, weekend warriors, and youth athletes who need their bodies to keep doing what they ask of them
  • Extremity adjusting — shoulders, knees, ankles, wrists

Auto Accident Care

Comprehensive Care After a Car Accident

Auto accident injuries are different. Whiplash often doesn't show for days. Soft-tissue injuries respond differently than chronic pain. And the paperwork around insurance and personal injury claims adds friction at exactly the moment you don't have energy for it.

We handle the clinical side: comprehensive evaluation, imaging if needed (read same-day, in the room with you), and a treatment plan that matches the injury pattern. We accept all insurance and will verify your benefits before your first visit.

  • Whiplash & cervical strain — the most common post-accident injury
  • Soft-tissue injury — muscle, ligament, and tendon damage from sudden impact
  • Lumbar & thoracic pain — including disc involvement when present
  • Headaches — particularly when they follow a collision

Billing note: We do not direct-bill the auto carrier for PIP claims. Care is billed to you or your health insurance — coordinated as primary or secondary coverage. Call us before your first visit and we'll walk you through it.
